Policies

  • The Weissman Hood Institute at Touro University (WHIT) follows federal regulations regarding research with human subjects, as defined by Health and Human Services (HHS) regulations for the protection of human subjects in research at 45 CFR 45.

WHIT has a Federalwide Assurance (FWA00032434) that assures compliance to HHS/Common Rule regulations. Terms of the assurance not only apply to all federally funded research, but also to all Human Subjects Research (HSR) research actives, regardless of source of funding, unless FDA regulations apply. HHS and FDA regulations each have their own definitions of research and human subject.  If your research may be regulated by FDA regulations, please contact the Touro New York Institutional Review Board (IRB) office at touroNY-irb@touro.edu for additional guidance.

  • We are dedicated to fostering a research environment that respects and upholds the traditions, cultures, and sovereignty of tribal and foreign nations. Our mission is to ensure that research conducted within our institution aligns with the ethical principles and values of these communities, honoring their traditions, beliefs, and ways of knowing. We strive to protect the rights, welfare, and interests of all research participants, while promoting equitable partnerships and mutual understanding between researchers and communities. Please see our full policies and partnering practices for working with tribal nations here:
