This position is responsible for supporting the Principal Investigators of McLaughlin Research Institute through following research procedures, exercising analytical judgement, and performing technical laboratory duties.  This position is also responsible for handling laboratory animals, noxious chemicals and specimens, hazardous materials, and radioisotopes; applicants must be physically and mentally capable of performing all essential tasks surrounding these duties. Light to medium lifting of equipment and supplies may be required.

Perform Required Experiments

Operate laboratory equipment such as CO2 incubators, microscopes, centrifuges, and biologic hoods.

Perform DNA analysis, electrophoresis, and ultracentrifugation of samples.

Use and safely handle Biological Radioisotopes.

Other duties as assigned.

As a direct report to the Vice President of Research and a critical component of MRI’s research team, this position works closely with leadership to perform required experiments using research best practices and procedures. Clear and orderly records of data and experiments performed, as well as communicating effectively both in written and verbal form while being able to effectively organize and manage time are required. MRI is honored to have various federal, state, and private foundation grants, and is grateful for generous financial support from community members. This position will help support the goals, research projects, and integrity of the Institute, its grantors, and its benefactors.

Keep clear and orderly records of data and experiments on various software platforms, such as Microsoft Excel, Office 365, and Google Workspaces.

Communicate clearly and accurately using English, both verbally and in writing, all ongoing projects to the Principal Investigator(s).

Perform Mathematical and Statistical Calculations

Inventory supplies and equipment and submit requests to the Purchasing Manager for new orders and restocks as necessary.

Other duties as assigned.

Bachelor’s degree in Biology, Chemistry, or related fields.

Willing to handle and manipulate laboratory animals, primarily mice.
